ODONTOLOGIA HOSPITALAR: ATUAÇÃO DO CIRURGIÃO DENTISTA NO ATENDIMENTO AO PACIENTE EM UNIDADE DE TERAPIA INTENSIVA

A Odontologia hospitalar é uma área relativamente recente e pouco difundida que vem ganhando destaque devido à pandemia da COVID-19 iniciada em março de 2020. Pacientes hospitalizados e internados em Unidades de Terapia Intensiva (UTI) são considerados pacientes críticos que necessitam de monitoramento constante. O déficit do cuidado com a higiene oral pode ser determinante para a melhora ou agravamento do quadro clínico do paciente; por isso a presença do cirurgião dentista como parte da equipe multidisciplinar é tão importante; pois ele atua não apenas na intervenção curativa, como por exemplo, através da laserterapia, mas principalmente preventiva. A atuação do cirurgião dentista em ambiente hospitalar baseia-se na concretização do conceito de saúde integral e promoção de saúde, podendo ser definida como uma prática que visa os cuidados das alterações bucais e que exigem procedimentos de equipes multidisciplinares de alta complexidade. Dentro desse contexto, o presente estudo tem como principal objetivo discorrer sobre a Odontologia hospitalar tendo como foco o papel desempenhado pelo cirurgião dentista neste ambiente durante o atendimento ao paciente internado em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva (UTI). Para isso, será realizada uma revisão na literatura existente através de uma busca nas bases de dados eletrônicas de representatividade na área como LILACS, PubMed, MEDLINE e Google acadêmico; utilizando artigos publicados em texto completo e online no idioma português e nos últimos 5 anos (2011-2021).
Abstract
Hospital dentistry is a relatively recent and not very widespread area that has been gaining prominence due to the COVID-19 pandemic started in March 2020. Patients hospitalized and admitted to Intensive Care Units (ICUs) are considered critical patients who need constant monitoring. The deficit in care with oral hygiene can be decisive for the improvement or worsening of the patient's clinical condition; that is why the presence of the dental surgeon as part of the multidisciplinary team is so important; because it acts not only in curative intervention, for example, with the Lasertherapy, but mainly preventive. The performance of the dental surgeon in the hospital environment is based on the implementation of the concept of comprehensive health and health promotion, which can be defined as a practice that aims to care for oral changes and that require procedures from highly complex multidisciplinary teams. focus on the role played by the dental surgeon in this environment during the care of the patient admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). For this, a review of the existing literature will be carried out through a search in the electronic databases of representativeness in the area such as LILACS, PubMed, MEDLINE, and Google academic; using articles published in full text and online in Portuguese and in the last 5 years (2011-2021).
